For the second day of Phase 2 training, Tris is put under the fear simulation again. This time, she is trapped in a glass box that is slowly filling up with water. All the initiates and trainers are there watching, but they will not help her.
"I press my hand above my head to see if I can force the box open. It doesn't budge. I am sealed in." - Tris
Tris know's that the only way out is to face the fear or calm your heart rate, but she thinks there might be another way out. She does everything she can to try and break the glass and ends up shattering the box open.
She comes out of the simulation and Four asks her how she broke the glass. Tris honestly doesn't know how, but that doesn't matter. Four takes her into the hall and tells her that he knows she is divergent because she can manipulate the tests. He promises to delete the footage, but advises her not to do it again unless she wants to end up dead.
Obviously the next logical thing to do is look for answers and who has those? Tori. Tori informs her that Divergent people who are Dauntless tend to...die, but not always. Tris doesn't think the Dauntless leaders would kill anybody, but Tori knows firsthand that they will.
"They got my brother, why not you huh? What makes you special?" - Tori
Yep. Tori's Divergent brother was murdered by Dauntless leaders for being divergent. Anyway, apparently Tobias knows something about Divergent people, because he knows the symptoms of it.
