Chapter Twenty-One

Rankings for stage two are posted and Tris is ranked first. Not surprising, but her time is five minutes faster than Peter's, who is in second place. A conspicuously wide margin. So true to Peter being a sore loser, he flips on Tris and almost beats her up.

"Tris is going to edge you out of the rankings and out of Dauntless, and you're going to get nothing, all because she knows how to manipulate people and you don't. So when you realize that she's out to ruin us all, you let me know." - Peter

Will actually almost believes Peter's claims about Tris. Al was ranked last, and doesn't even want to talk to Tris at this point because he is so ashamed of himself. I feel bad, but he should've tried a little harder during the first phase of initiation so his overall score wasn't as bad.

Later, Four talks to Tris and tells her that she belongs here. In Dauntless I mean. And they end up holding hands. Then she walks away. The way this relationship progresses is so strange.

"I reach out and take his hand. For a long moment we stay that way. Then I pull my hand away and run after Uriah and Lynn and Marlene." - Tris

See what I mean? Oh, they held hands for like five seconds. You could cut the sexual tension with a knife. (Hint of sarcasm.)

At night, Tris overhears a conversation between Eric and a familiar female voice. Apparently, Eric was appointed to be a leader on order to find and kill any Divergent rebels. Then out of the blue, Tris is grabbed and bound by three people.

"The palm on my mouth is sweaty and soft. I clench my teeth and breath through my nose. The soap smell is familiar. Lemongrass and Sage. The same smell surrounds Al's bunk. A weight drops in my stomach."  -Tris

I think part of my soul just died. Freaking Al is helping Peter and Drew kill Tris!! No! He's a good guy! They hang her over the chasm and almost drop her until Four comes in and saves her.
